Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak: MalmöUniversityand RoskildeUniversity benefit from developing their cooperation

Institutional cooperation between Malmö University and Roskilde University is establishing cooperation between the departments at both higher education institutions so as to contribute to development and integration in the Öresund Region.

The two universities have a key role as centres of competence in the region. Both teach a number of complementary subjects and conduct research in many similar research areas.

This project is intended to further develop existing cooperation and develop new examples of cooperation in research and development, education and administration. There will be a particular focus on new research cooperation linked to external actors.

“The objective has been to put infrastructure in place, and that we have achieved," says the project manager Marie Brobeck. “We have developed a palette of different models, including a cost-neutral agreement that enables the higher education institutions to use one another´s special expertise, for example as external lecturers or co-supervisors."

The project has also developed a new model for how to cooperate on joint educational activities without conflicts arising between the legislation in the two countries as well as a strategy with arguments advocating the interesting point about students being able to use the Öresund Region as a common arena for education.

“These models and the strategy act as support and inspiration in the new cooperation we have established," says Marie Brobeck.

In autumn 2010, 35 researchers are involved in cooperation in four different areas: Social Innovation and Elderly Care; Europeanisation and Globalisation; Communication and Development; and Meaning-making and Diversity.
